2. Basic Chinese Grammar
At times, Chinese people may claim that China does not possess grammar; this statement is misleading because Chinese is actually home to some rather complex rules of grammar that distinguish it from English. Chinese does not inflect verbs to indicate who performed an action or when it occurred, while its sentence structure follows a clear subject-verb-object (SVO) pattern which makes correct sentence formation relatively straightforward for beginners.
One of the more intriguing features of Chinese grammar is the use of particles. Although not as intuitive as their English equivalents, once learned they can greatly expand your range of expression. For example, de can be attached to nouns to indicate possession and verbs to describe levels of action.
This course is tailored towards students who possess basic aural-oral proficiency, seeking to expand their reading and writing abilities by exploring classic Chinese literary works such as Dream of the Red Chamber and other related works.
